I met Dr. Harmesh Kumar, who visited Pakistan in November 2019 on the historical event of Kirtarpur Rahdari.
For 550th birthday of Baba Guru Nanak Sahib.
His optimistic personality, empathetic behaviour and humble gesture influenced me to write his Biography for the interest of my readers.

Dr. Harmesh Kumar is a psychologist and entrepreneur.
Additionally he is currently consulting privately.
As a private contractor (Licensed Psychologist) with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
He has 36 years of experience in the mental health field.
Dr. Kumar started his private corporation Therapeutic Residential Care Services (TRS Inc.) in 2004.
He owned and operated several state licensed assisted living and skilled nursing facilities across California.
Hence he is serving the elderly, mentally ill & the developmentally disabled for their long-term housing needs.
His Services For Humanity
He has prevented hundreds of emergency visits by residents from his facilities for behavioral acting outs.
Additionally he has dealt with difficult families & government agencies.
He is very passionate and devoted to serve local communities.
Dr. Kumar is an advocate for housing and mental health services for chronically mentally disabled.
His focus is to prevent further decline in their conditions & to fight social injustice.
His Role in Various Institutions & Organizations
As well as Dr Kumar is also the founder and president of a non-profit mental health agency in California called South Asian Behavioral Health and Training Foundation (SABH CENTER) Inc.
The SABH Center provides mental health awareness to South Asian communities.
Especially in their linguistic and cultural context and also helps them to become part of main stream community.
Additionally he co-founded another mental health (The Hume Center) agency in June 1993.
Dr. Kumar served as President of the Hume Center until August 31, 2004.
The Hume Center celebrated 25th Anniversary on Nov. 3, 2018.

Afterwards he started all the programs from scratch and found financial resources to sustain them.
Including Outpatient, Partial Hospitalization Program, Geropsychiatric, Behavioral Consultation for staff and consumers of Board.

Along with other services he served as Director of training program and supervised many Pre and Post-doctoral trainees over the years.
Dr Kumar’s Professional Career
Dr. Kumar began his professional career in 1983 as a social scientist (psychologist).
Along with the World Health Organization (WHO) ’s Collaborative Center for Mental Health and Research, Department of Psychiatry, and College of Nursing.
Moreover Dr. Kumar served as president of Federation of Indo-American Associations of Northern California (2006-5-2006).
He also served on the Executive Committee of Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County from 2003 to 2014.
His Services For Different Communities
In addition to that he served on Measure Q Finance Oversight Committee, City of Concord, CA (2010-2014).
He served as a Commissioner for the City of Concord on the Human Relations Commission to serve local community and served as a Chair of the Commission from 2006-2010.
Moreover he was a member of the Board of Directors of Monument Community Partnership (MCP) from 2003-2005.
Additionally he was a trustee of the Board of Trustees of Ik Onkar Peace Foundation.
It was Cooperation Circle of United Religions Initiative.
As Trustee, he attended World Parliament of Religions in July 2004, in Barcelona, Spain to learn and spread the message of universal love.
He also served on the Advisory Council of India Community Center (www.ICC.org).
Dr. Kumar started the Annual Spring Diversity Festival (Baisakhi) sixteen years ago.
In Todos Santos Park Plaza in downtown Concord to build bridges in different ethnic communities and create social harmony in collaboration with Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County.
He organized and participated in the free community health fairs organized by various local charitable organizations.
Such as the Federation of Indo-American Associations (FIA) and the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPIO).
He also served as the Chairperson of the Allied Health Professionals’ chapter from 1994 to 1995.
Dr. Kumar also chaired a committee on cross-cultural issues in neuropsychology of Northern California.
In addition to that he served as a Member at Large on the Executive Board of NCNF.

Dr. Kumar was honored in August 15, 2002, with Certificate of Recognition by the Senate of State of California.
For his services for the welfare of the citizens of California.
Hind Ratan Award
Dr Kumar is honored with HIND RATTAN (Jewel of India) Award in 1996.
By The Non-Resident-Indians Welfare Society of India and many local Indo-American and mainstream organizations.
For his achievements and contributions to the well being of the Indo-American community as well as to the mainstream society in the United States.
Making A Difference Award
He was awarded “Making a Difference Award” for his service to Contra Costa County residents by Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County.
His work in Mental Health & Community Development has been recognized by Former President Bill Clinton.
As well as members of US Congress, State Senate, State Assembly, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, and the Concord City Council.
Dr Kumar’s Political Career
Dr Kumar ran for State Assembly (AD 14) and received more than 10700 votes and for Concord City Council he received almost 12000 votes and came as a runners’ up.
On the other hand he was a candidate for California Governor in 2018 primary to bring awareness for funding of services for mentally and developmentally disabled and for the elderly.
Therefore His belief is that we need to invest more on prevention & supportive housing for people with disabilities.
Instead of spending more in managing constant crises through our law enforcement agencies which are not trained to deal with mental health issues.
Therefore, it causes more outrage in the community against those officers who are trying to keep everyone safe.
As well as, his major focus is to reduce & prevent the homelessness in our communities.
Moreover Dr. Kumar wants to prevent elderly from becoming homeless and those, who do not speak English and cannot drive due to poor vision and other health issues.
However Dr. Kumar’s work in Community Mental Health and Community Development has been recognized by Former President Bill Clinton.
In additon to his help & services he has helped and consulted with many private business owners.
To keep healthy boundaries and nurturing relationships with their employees to sustain and grow there businesses.
