The Daily Notable (Web Desk) Italy said on Tuesday that it will help Asia Bibi leave Pakistan since her life is in peril following charges of blasphemy that put her death row for eight years.
Supreme Court vindicated Asia Bibi a month ago yet the verdict started mass protests and her husband, Ashiq Masih, says they could be killed. Authorities have shown they will banish Bibi from voyaging abroad.
“I want women and children whose lives are at risk to be able to have a secure future, in our country or in other Western countries, so I will do everything humanly possible to guarantee that (for Bibi),” Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini said.
“It isn’t allowed that in 2018 somebody can chance to lose their life for a … speculation of blasphemy” said Salvini, who is also an interior minister and leader of the League party, which has been critical of Islam in the past.”
Italy is working attentively looking into it with other Western nations, he told an Italian radio station.
Earlier, the international Catholic agency Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) cited Masih as saying in a phone call: “I plead to the Italian government to aide I and my family leave Pakistan.”
“We are greatly stressed because our lives are at risk. We don’t have enough to eat on the grounds that we can’t go out to purchase nourishment,” he told the officer.
In the interview with the radio station, Salvini was asked to respond to the husband’s appeal.
