Increase in Petrol Price Portrays Artificial Crises – Daily Notable
Letter to the Editor Daily Notable
Dear Editor
Unfortunately, people of Pakistan have not tasted the benefit of reduction in petrol prices, but
they will feel the burden of recent increase by government. Fall in petrol prices have caused a
serious crisis of fuel shortage in Pakistan, an inquiry report has confirmed that petrol crisis was
artificially created by prominent petrol companies. Petrol crisis caused the public to line up in
petrol pump for hours and forced to buy expensive petrol. Whenever petrol became cheaper in
Pakistan, the petrol mafia started to move a lot. Gradually, petrol started running out and petrol
pumps started closing.
Trick of Petrol Companies
Petrol supply companies have stocked up petrol when the prices were low and they stopped the
supply to create the fuel shortage. But now as government has announced the increase in petrol
price, those companies will supply the petrol on new prices and get the profit.

This situation is clearly depicting the failure of government; the government dropped petrol bombs on the poor.
On the one hand, the government keeps saying that our aim is to give all possible relief to the
people, but here we did not even wait for the end of the month. On the night of June 26, a new
burden was placed on the people. These companies are too powerful to cause petrol crisis even
after direct instructions from Prime Minister of Pakistan. Although inquiry report recommended
strict action against the responsible companies, but the penalty given is like a drop in ocean.
Possible Solution
Government should curb those factors causing the economic damage to Pakistan and challenging
the writ of law enforcing authorities.

Government should make clear policies so that this kind of malpractice can be stopped.

Due to this pandemic the price of petrol is increase day by day and most of the people become unemploy… They have no jobs so how can they afford the high rates of petrol… When the petrol rates is high automatically the price of all goods becomes higher and higher so a number of things have gone wrong this time. But at the heart of them is an attempt by the government to impose an unrealistic price at a critical time.
