Discussion Pakistani Literature in English – Daily Notable
Pakistan Academy of Letters, (PAL) organized a discussion on the occasion of online “Weekly Celebrations of Independence Day” on “Pakistani Literature in English: New Directions, Conundrums and Debates” as held. Dr. Muhammad Safir Awan presided over the function.
Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Chairman, PAL thanked the participants and presented introductory notes. Dr. Masood Ashraf Raja, Haris Khaliq, moreover, Maneza Shamsi, Dr. Sibghatullah Khan, Dr. Muhammad Shiraz Dasti and Muhammad Ibrahim Khokhar presented articles on the topic. Moreover, discussion moderated by Dr. Asma Mansoor.
Dr. Safir Awan said that the introduction of Pakistani literature in the global arena is a good step. However, Pakistani literature in English is a mirror of our civilization, traditions, culture and general literature. Pakistani literature is no less than any other country in the world, but we can proudly compete with the best literature in the world.
Dr. Yousuf Khoshk said that Pakistani writers and poets have left masterpieces in English literature. This work is still going on with great diligence and continuity. Our English writers are no less than any other writer in the world. Moreover, their vision extends from regional literature to global literature. The social, economic, psychological and intellectual factors that take place at home and abroad are within the reach of their thinking and approach. In this sense, our writers have not only expanded English literature but also made it fruitful.
Islamabad: Pakistan Academy of Letters, (PAL) organized a discussion on “Tehreek-e-Azadi and Urdu Poetry”the occasion of online “Weekly Celebrations of Independence Day” was held. Presidium consists of Wajid Jawad and Dr. Muhammad Kamran. Yashb Tamana was the chief guest.
Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Chairman, PAL thanked the guests and presented introductory notes. Furthermore, Hina Jamshed, Saira Iqbal, Dr. Khawar Nawazish, Dr. Farzana Kokab, Azam Kamal, Maqbool Gilani, Mahmood Al Hassan, moreover, Dr. Salahuddin Darwish, Dr. Tariq Hashmi, Sami Durrani, Shabbir Ahmad Qadri, Dr. Shagufta Hussain, Dr. Liaquat Ali and Dr. Tash Mirza presented articles. Discussion moderated by Ashraf Kamal.
Furthermore, Wajid Jawad said that poets have played a key role in the movement of Pakistan. They wrote poems on the love of Nationalism and for the homeland.
Specifically, Dr. Muhammad Kamran said that our writers and poets have played a leading role in the independence movement. There is no precedent for the way he evoked the passion of the people in their poems. Moreover, Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Chairman, PAL, thanked the participants and said that the articles were read out in weekly Independence Day celebrations will be published from the PAL’s platform and a full recording is being made which will be presented on PAL’s Facebook.
Furthermore, to pass on these writings to the new generation needs to be made aware of all the stages of the struggle for independence. There are 72 languages in Pakistan. Moreover, the literature of these languages is like an asset. We have successfully hosted literature sessions in major languages.
