A video of Bilal Saeed engaging in a physical fight against a man and a woman went viral yesterday. Many shamed the artist for physically abusing the woman while others – unsurprising and disappointingly – felt he was doing precisely what women asked for when they demanded equal rights.

Saeed became a top trend on Pakistani Twitter as thousands of users shared their two cents on his behavior, after which, he took to the micro-blogging site to share his own.
“Every human has the right to live with dignity and security, regardless of gender. I am a believer of peace, however, I also believe in establishing boundaries when that peace is repeatedly compromised by another, regardless of gender,” he wrote.
“When the safety and dignity of a person is violated and jeopardized over and over again, he, unfortunately, is left with no option but to react,” added the Baari singer.

He then fled to Instagram, sharing a video of his house in shambles to explain what he meant when he said his safety and dignity had been violated and his peace, repeatedly compromised.
“Violence against anyone whether man or woman is wrong but it is my right to protect myself and my loved ones if I am physically and verbally harmed and threatened,” wrote the Teri Kher Mangdi hit-maker.
Saeed alleged the woman and the man he was fighting against were responsible for this vandalism, “This is just a glimpse of what I have suffered,” he wrote.

Dubbing his reaction and the video an instance of self defense, Saeed continued, “I never spoke about it. People should know that being famous is not a privilege but in fact can be problematic sometimes.
I believe in bodily autonomy and safety for all. Violence against anyone whether man or woman is wrong but it is my right to protect myself and my loved ones if I am physically and verbally harmed and threatened.”
Then to the fans lauding his violent behavior and the ones calling him out, he said, “I am not proud of engaging in a physical fight but I am only human and it was a reaction to all the torture I suffered. I am sorry that my fans had to see this side of me and I do not intend to support or promote violence.”
