NDMA Visits to Emergency Services Headquarters & Academy
According to the sources of Daily Notable, on behalf of Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Pakistan, the Member Operations NDMA Brig Waseem Uddin visited Emergency Services Headquarters & Academy of Rescue 1122 here on Friday to meet the Pakistan Rescue Team (PRT)of Emergency Services Academy the First United Nations INSARAG Certified in South Asia and to discuss with Director-General/ Commander of PRT Dr Rizwan Naseer for joint training schedule/ cycle of other Urban Search & Rescue Teams of the country and coordination mechanism for deployment of UN certified Rescue Team in case of disaster inland /abroad. The Member Operations was received by Team Leader PRT Dr Muhammad Farhan Khalid along with other senior officers of Academy.
Brig Waseem congratulated the Pakistan Rescue Team and said it is a milestone achievement to get UN Certification for disaster response, NDMA would provide all possible support and arrange mutual training programs and exercises to enhance the capacity of different disaster response teams of the country.
He also took detail briefing about the process of urban search and rescue training, international certification and specialized purpose-built training simulators in the Academy and ongoing specialized training activities of Fire, Rescue, Medical, Deep Well Rescue, Burn House, Fire Fit Challenge, Height Rescue, Water Rescue, Swimming, Urban Search & Rescue, and physical fitness training.
He also visited the Medical, Fire and Rescue Labs where he was briefed about the appropriate advance use of rescue equipment in rescue operations as well as its usage in Emergency Services Academy for training purposes.
The Member Operations NDMA also visited the Provincial Monitoring Cell established to ensure the uniform standards of Service in all Districts of Punjab.
In the Cell he was briefed about the monitoring system which included visual monitoring of control rooms, fleet management and tracking system, citizen feedback and the overall emergency data.
He observed emergency operations that Rescue Service has rescued over 9.3 million victims of emergencies and saved losses over Rs. 500 billion in over 163,000 fire incidents by timely emergency response and professional freighting.
On this occasion, he discussed with DG Rescue Dr Rizwan Naseer the historic achievement and way forward for best utilization of this international level capacity of Rescue Service.
Dr Rizwan said, it is a matter of great honor for Pakistan that the Pakistan Rescue Team of Emergency Services Academy (Rescue 1122) Lahore has become the First United Nations – INSARAG Classified team in South Asia after completing an extensive evaluation process of several years under supervision of UN INSARAG Mentors.
Now it is time to train other urban search and rescue teams of the country through PRT and NDMA can play important role in coordination of all teams and their deployment being National Focal Point or Agency. – PUNA
