The incidents of sexual assaults involving the murder of Noor Mukadam, Usman Mirza bullying the couple and Mufti Aziz-ur-Rahman sexual abuse of Madrassa student are drastic and eye opener for society, state and Media to ponder upon and formulate mechanism to handle such affairs legally and demonize the character involved socially.
Media can play a significant role in publicizing and flashing such horrifying issues till the culprits gets the requisite damnation and doom. Media role as a watchdog requires investigative reporting, robust communication skills, undaunted courage, professional integrity, truthfulness, objectivity and perseverance to divulge the evils and crimes infested the society.
Media works as an eye and ear of society. What is happening worse in society is the duty of media to report it with unbiased outlook. Social awareness is an outstanding tool to curb crime and media is the important instrument to create social awareness about crime and criminality. Media accommodate public opinion and it eliminates the darkness of injustice with light of fair and equitable dispensation of justice.
The role of media to portray the actual face of society is undeniable. Media should not become handmaiden of any political party, vested interests, material gains and subjectivity. Independent, fair, vigilant and vibrant media helps society to get rid of social evils that are otherwise detrimental to its growth and prosperity. – PUNA
