The Day I Became a Defaulter Without Knowing It:
Danish– ISLAMABAD – I found out I was a loan defaulter while I was trying to register an account with JazzCash i.e Mobilink Microfinance Bank ltd.
I never ever have registered an account with Jazzcash before that and upon inputting my information an error popped that your ID card is already associated with another number.
Surviving 2026: The Everyday Battles of Pakistan’s Common Man
At first I thought that it is a mere misunderstanding but when I sent an email on Jazzcash complaint center I was told that indeed someone else is using my Jazzcash account and is without any permission using my CNIC.
Upon various inquiries I was told that my account is associated with some number which is not registered in my name and to add to this trouble Jazzcash complaint center told me “Dear Customer, your JazzCash loan payment of Rs. 1400/- is overdue. Pay now to avoid late charges and negative credit reporting. Helpline 4444.
The Problem is that I have never taken a JazzCash loan in my life. I called 4444. After 28 minutes on hold, the agent confirmed what froze my blood: A JazzCash Mobile Account was opened using my CNIC.
The registered number? A Ufone SIM owned by a woman from Swat, I don’t know her. Yet JazzCash issued a “ReadyCash” microloan of Rs. 1000/- on that account 1 years ago. With markup, I now “owed” Rs. 1400/- how did this happen?
Here’s what JazzCash’s complaint center told me, piece by piece, across infinite emails and phone calls.
Account Opening:
Anyone can open a Level-0 JazzCash account with just a CNIC number + name + date of birth + mother’s name. No biometric, no OTP to the CNIC owner’s actual number.
The SIM was bought in Swat, likely on someone else’s biometric, then my CNIC was punched in to upgrade the wallet limit.
Loan Approval:
After 30 days of “transactions” on that account, JazzCash algorithms auto-approved ReadyCash. No call to me. No consent.
Liability:
Because the CNIC is mine, JazzCash says I am legally responsible. Their stance: “You must have shared your CNIC copy. File an FIR and pay the loan. We can’t waive it.”I didn’t share my CNIC. But my ID copy is everywhere — landlord, courier slip, job application, school admission.
In Pakistan, your CNIC is not private. It’s photocopied currency. I filed a complaint on State Bank of Pakistan official online complaint service Complaint # 153309.
After a week I received confirmation email from State Bank of Pakistan that my issue is resolved but guess what the issue was never resolved.
I even got the woman’s number from JazzCash and I called her but the number was powered off.

The Catch-22:
JazzCash won’t close the account without “clearing dues.” Credit bureaus like DataCheck have already flagged me. Additionally I applied for a car loan last week. Rejected. Reason: “Digital microfinance default.
Meanwhile here I am: I never opened the account, never got the money, never signed anything. But I am being asked to pay Rs. 1400/- for someone else’s fraud, or live with a destroyed credit score. It is not about money it is about how easily Jazzcash has shrugged me off without any accountability what so ever.
