E – Learning its advantages and disadvantages – Daily Notable

By our Editorial Desk, Sadia Ishaq

E-learning is the acquisition and use of knowledge distributed and facilitated primarily by electronic mean. This form of learning currently depends on computers and network, but will likely evolve into a system consisting of a variety of channels and technologies as they are developed and adopted. E – learning can take the form of courses as well as modules and smaller learning objects.

E-learning may incorporate synchronous and asynchronous access and may be distributed geographically with varied limits of time.

Evolution

The e-learning models of today are analogous to distance learning approaches. The roots of e- learning therefore, traced back to the correspondence model of learning. One of the first correspondence programs in the U.S developed at Pennsylvania state university in 1892, where the main mission was to provide higher education access to remote and rural areas.

Because Only Together We Can

During its heydays in 1920’s to 1930’s shool such as penn state experimented with the use of radio to broadcast their correspondence course lessons nationally.

In recent years, the knowledge based economy exhibited a pervasive and ever increasing demand for innovative ways of providing education and this led to dramatic changes in learning technology as well as organizations.

In the midst of this transition, cooperation, government organizations and educational institutions have to keep pace with E-learning phenomena and make strategic decisions how to adopt E-learning techniques in their unique environment.

Use of E-Learning

E-learning is used in anywhere and in all kinds of areas. Companies, non-profit organizations, NGO’S and educational institutions.

Advantages

E-learning has many advantages. Some of them are:

Obtaining grades from web

Save time and also the money

Communication with instructor personally by every person

Tension Free discussions on course content through the discussion-board

Easy access to course content and lectures at any time (as lectures are recorded)

Easy submission of assignments through web

Flexibility, Accessibility and Convenience.

But now a day in such a pandemic situation due to COVID-19 is more beneficial for whole world .Because it saves children from wasting their precious time in this pandemic.

Disadvantages of E-learning

Every application has two sides .E-learning also has its disadvantages:

The application used for E-learning is not accessible to all.

The quality of network is not same in all areas so students are unable to access E-learning.

Solution for E-learning

Organization should ensure that effective strategies are in place before implementing web based learning.

Care should be taken to ensure that the students with low bandwidth also can access these.

Conclusion

E-learning is the best way of saving time. But there is need of some betterment in this so that it is accessible to every person.

No doubt that E-learning brought revulotion in education system of now a days. But all these advantages that you have mentioned in your article are only favorable for students or people of any organisation, firm or institution when there is availability of internet everywhere in the country. All these advantages and latest equipments are useful only for first world state where due to technological advancements internet is available in each and every corner of the states, it is easy for everyone to access internet without any issue.
But in third word states of Africa and asia where internet is not available for everyone especially in remote areas of these countries. Without internet E-learning is null. Currently only availability of internet can make E-learning useful.
You have not talked on unavailability of internet especially in remote areas of third word states. How E-learning system can work or can be successful without internet which connects people of different continent with each other worldwide?
What about remote areas of third world state where internet is completely unavailable? And where due to unawarnes people know nothing about E-learning.

    • Sadia Ishaq says:

Without internet E-learning is not possible.
Promting E-learning could be and effective way to initiate E-learning program other way could be through publishing e books, blogs and even through hosting and event on E- learning.
Developing effective communication among the people could be another approach towards creating awareness.

Please elaborate more disadvantages of e learning

    • Sadia says:

Yes I can elaborate disadvantages of E-learning .
E- learning can cause social isolation .E-learning requires strong self -motivation and time management skills.Online student feedback is limited.E-learning lack face to face communication.

  58. Awais Arshad says:

  59. Aima says:

What are challenges of E-Learning? plz tell me

    • Sadia says:

One of the major challenges of E-learning is that the employees aur learners are unaware of effectiveness of E-learning.People feel that E-learning is not as effective as classroom training and those people miss opportunity of face to face interaction.

      • Aima says:

E-learning has indeed holds a very positive impact during this era of pandemic i.e. Covid19. But this particular learning system is only for those who holds an access to internet. Most of the people around the world and specifically in Pakistan are living in rural areas. How can they ensure learning through E-learning? The loopholes need to be addressed.

  70. Khayam Khawar says:

Well i think E-learning has to many loop holes.
There are some institutes which offers up to the Masters level degree programs buy there is no environment of competition , discussion , get to know other people’s perspectives which brings a healthy state of mind and students take things responsibly. You cant compete with this world without practically facing things or doing them.
Hope there will be some solutions to it

Very well written but the regratable fact is that in pakistan, due to lack of facilities its impossible to access. the proliferation of Virus has effected all the world. hence, in Pakistan internet facilities are available in big cities but in tribal areas there is no access of internet such as turbet, awaran ( areas in Balochistan) so this method is not applicable.

    • Sadia Ishaq says:

Yes it is applicable big cities but not in rular areas due to bad internet connections.

This is a excellent article, but have avoid tribal backward areas.

    • Sadia Ishaq says:

In bacķward areas there are internet issues so E-learning is not possible in backward areas it is only possible when government take steps for good internet connections.

      • Ahmad says:

        Yes u are right

  78. Sirajullah says:

E-learning is excellent but there should be a mechanism for its implementation I.e. internet and awareness etc.

    • Ali says:

      Yes explain it

    • Sadia Ishaq says:

E-learning is implemented only by good internet connection and awareness of people by developing communication and by promoting E-learning.

  79. Murtaza Niaz says:

It’s good to get to know about E-learning and its advantages worldwide but in poorer countries where there is less and low quality of education and have no internet, what about those states?
