Secretary LGCD Punjab for Timely Completion of PICIIP Uplift Schemes

According to the sources of Daily Notable, Secretary Local Government and Community Development (LGCD) Punjab Imran Sikandar Baloch on Tuesday paid a visit to the Punjab Intermediate Cities Investment Improvement Program (PICIIP) head office where he was given a briefing on the progress of the ongoing uplift projects.

The Secretary LGCD directed that all the Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs ) should be achieved in time, especially in view of the plight of the people in form of excavation of sewerage and anticipated heavy rains . It was further directed that the PICIIP authorities should remove other bottlenecks of the project effectively with the consultation of the respective district administration.
The Project Director of PICIIP Hamza Salik, while briefing, apprised the chair (Secretary LG) in a follow-up meeting that the uplift schemes worth Rs. 43 billions were in the final stages of completion in Sialkot and Sahiwal while the other five cities in South Punjab i.e. Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Muzaffargarh had also been included in the program at an estimated cost of $ 600 million.

Appreciating the inclusion of above said five districts, the Secretary said that the project was a need of the day in such backward and underdeveloped districts and would surely help alleviate the sense of deprivation among the local population there. – PUNA
