Popular TV show from the 80s ‘Ankahi’ to go on stage – Daily Notable

Popular television serial from the 80s, Ankahi is all set to make its debut on the local theatre scene.
Penned by renowned playwright Hasina Moin, the television serial is set to be performed on stage on October 20 this year at the Karachi Arts Council.
The news was revealed at a press conference held at the Arts Council which saw the participation of Moin, along with prominent actors Sajid Hassan, Amna Ilyas, Saqib Sameer and Dawar Mehmood, who is directing the play.
At the conference, Moin said that the purpose of bringing this story back is to send a message to the new generation that in this age, we all need love. Adding on, she noted that we can’t move forward unless the hatred in our hearts is eradicat-ed. She stressed that this story is being re-told today to promote the same message.

At the same time, Mehmood maintained that the play will be different in a way but portray the same message. According to him, more than 150 artists will work on the production, with Illyas being a prominent part. Sameer echoed the same sentiments, noting that the play will be tailored to today’s environment.
Moreover, Hassan took the time to praise Moin as a writer, deeming her a legend. He noted that the latter’s writing involves a lot of research.

During his address at the conference, President Arts Council Muhammad Ahmad Shah said that with government re-strictions lifted all across, normal activities have been started at the venue with the relevant SOPs.
“Now that the Covid-19 outbreak has been brought under control in our country, we have been given permission to carry out cultural activities at the Arts Council, as was the norm before. There are a number of festivals that will be announced later,” he said.-PUNA
