According to the sources of Daily Notable, The Secretary of the Department of Local Government and Community Development (LGCD), Dr. Irshad Ahmed said that there will be no compromise on the timelines of externally supported projects of the LGCD department and all Project Directors (PDs) should prepare a priority plan to complete these projects on time.
He said: “If the development project is not completed according to the given targets, the costs will increase enormously, which is unacceptable.” Dr. Irshad Ahmad attended a briefing by PDs of Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement and Investment Program (PICIIP), Punjab Cities Program (PCP) and Punjab Rural Sustainable Supply and Sanitation Program (PRSWSSP) at the Civil Secretariat on Thursday.
The secretary said that the procurement system and payment system of development programs should be 100% transparent. He said the delayed works are causing suffering to the people due to the corrupt mafia.
He directed all the three PDs to review all obstacles in the timely completion of the projects and take an alternative route. “The request will be submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan so that the fixed dates are not affected,” he added.
Briefing the secretary, PICIIP PD Hamza Salik said that under phase 1 of PICIIP, parks at Sahiwal and Sialkot have been opened for public while clean water and solid waste management facilities will be provided in phase 2. He said 7 more cities have been selected for management and sanitation projects.
Earlier, in a briefing on behalf of PD Punjab Cities Programme, Syed Zahid Aziz said that 45 projects have been completed under PCP. whereas PD of PRSWSSP informed that 200 villages have been selected for clean water and solid waste management.
He said that in the second phase, filtration equipment and other facilities would be provided in 1,800 villages. Special Secretary LGCD Pervaiz Iqbal, Additional Secretary Development Maria Tariq and other concerned officers also attended the meeting. – PUNA
